Cereus peruvianus commonly know as the Peruvian Apple Cactus or the Columnar Cactus, is a large thorny column cactus found in South America. Mature columns have been known to get to 30 feet tall. Columns are cylindrical gray-green to blue stems with large thorny spins along these columns. Large nocturnal flowers remain open for only one night and when pollinated fruits will set. The fruits, known as Pitaya are thorn less. The skin color varies from red to orange to yellow. The flesh of these fruits is white in color and contains small, edible, crunchy seeds. It is more delicate when compared to Dragon Fruit having a snow cone texture. The longer the fruit stay on the column the sweeter they get. This variety is normally grown as ornamental plant, however it is grown commercially in Israel for it fruit. This variety was collected from a grower in Florida.
