Georges White Dragon Fruit variety comes from the genus Hylocereus and the species undatus. The fruit has a bright pink exterior with green-tipped fins. The flesh is a grayish-white with lots of small crunchy seeds. Fruits weigh between three quarter to one and a half pounds. The fruit flavor is mild, with an average brix score of 13. During the heat of summer, Spicy Exotics found this variety to have some fruit issues as some undatus do. For this reason, Spicy Exotics gives a two rating for fruit production. Georges White is very similar to Thai Dragon when comparing plant stems, flowers, and fruit and could be the same variety.
The flowers of the Georges White variety are self-fertile. For the first flower cycle, Spicy Exotics hand-pollinated, and we suggest this for all types of Dragon Fruit to ensure fruit and verify your variety. This variety is also a robust grower with meaty three-sided stems that are bright green. Small to medium spins occur along the rib line of each stem. Growth, flowers, and fruit are similar to most Hylocereus undatus. Spicy Exotics collected this variety from a tropical grower in California.
Spicy Exotics Dragon Fruit rating table
Flavor – When testing for the sweetness of the Dragon Fruit, a device called a refractometer is used. It uses the brix scale of sweetness. This scale ranges from 0 to 32. The higher the number, the sweeter the fruit. In addition to sweetness, any unique attributes such as size and flavor are also considered when giving this rating.
Fruit Production – For the rating, we look at how many fruits are produced from a single plant. Also considered is how easy or difficult the variety is to set fruit. For example, a variety that is self-fertile will get a higher rating than a self-sterile type.
Growing – This is a rating of the overall hardiness of the plant. In addition to this, Spicy Exotics also looks at how quickly the plant adapts from cuttings and how long it will take before producing the first fruit.
