Spicy Exotics Dragon Fruit ratings table:

Flavor – When testing for sweetness of the Dragon Fruit a device called a refractometer is used. It uses the brix scale of sweetness. This scale ranges from 0 to 32. The higher the number the sweeter the fruit. In addition to sweetness any unique attributes such as size and flavor are also considered when giving this rating.
Fruit Production – For the rating we look at how many fruits are produced from a single plant. Also, how easy or difficult it is to grow is considered. For example, a variety that is self-fertile will get a higher rating than an non self-fertile variety.
Growing – This is a rating of the overall hardiness of the plant. In addition to this, we also look at how quickly the plant adapts from cuttings and how long it will take before producing the first fruit.

Dark Star

Dark Star Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from Hylocereus guatemalensis and Hylocereus undatus. This variety has a medium to large sized purple fleshed fruit that typically weighs .75 to 1.25 pounds. The fruit has a mild grape-like flavor that has an average brix rating of 19. The skin of the fruit has a darker pink tint to it where it could have possibly received its name. This variety is known to be self-pollinating, but I found that hand pollination is needed to set fruit. Additional internet research has stated that 9S and Dark Star are the same. The 9S is seedling created by Paul Thomson and mentioned in his book Pitahaya. The 9S is a cross between Rixford, a purple fleshed variety and Niezel, a white fleshed variety. This variety was acquired from a tropical nursery in Louisiana.

The ratings on this one are spot on! It is such a quick grower! To show new growth it took about medium time but once it shot out a new piece of growth it has grown straight up and grew taller than all other varieties I have at this moment! If you are looking for a very good growing variety this is on my top of the list!!
