Spicy Exotics Dragon Fruit ratings table:

Flavor – When testing for sweetness of the Dragon Fruit a device called a refractometer is used. It uses the brix scale of sweetness. This scale ranges from 0 to 32. The higher the number the sweeter the fruit. In addition to sweetness any unique attributes such as size and flavor are also considered when giving this rating.
Fruit Production – For the rating we look at how many fruits are produced from a single plant. Also, how easy or difficult it is to grow is considered. For example, a variety that is self-fertile will get a higher rating than an non self-fertile variety.
Growing – This is a rating of the overall hardiness of the plant. In addition to this, we also look at how quickly the plant adapts from cuttings and how long it will take before producing the first fruit.

Physical Graffiti

Physical Graffiti Dragon Fruit is a hybrid variety that comes from Hylocereus guatemalensis and Hylocereus undatus. This variety produces a pinkish red-skinned fruit with light purple sweet flesh. These fruits are medium to large averaging .75 to 1.5 pounds. This variety is certainly worthy of attention by home growers for its exceptional taste. If you’re looking for great tasting fruit you must consider this variety. On the downside, this variety is self-sterile but will set fruit with most red-fleshed fruit pollen. The flowers are huge nocturnal blooms that are over 14 inches across and blooms all summer long. It is tops on the list when it comes to flower production. This variety has typical Hylocereus undatus three-sided growth that grows very aggressive. Additional internet research has stated that 1-S and Physical Graffiti are the same. The 1-S is seedling created by Paul Thomson and mentioned in his book Pitahaya. The 1-S is a cross between Rixford, a purple-fleshed Guatemalan variety, and Niezel, a white-fleshed undatus variety. Spicy Exotics collected this variety from a tropical nursery in Louisiana.
